What is the Arab Sustainable Development Week and Why is it Important?

The Arab Sustainable Development Week (ASDW) is a regional dialogue platform on sustainable development.
It is the largest and most important event dedicated to addressing the various dimensions of sustainable development in the Arab region.
It contributes to monitoring the progress made in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and supporting it comprehensively.

The Week brings together all relevant stakeholders from across the Arab region, including public and private sector entities,
civil society organizations, and regional and international organizations.

As a dialogue platform, ASDW deepens the shared visions of Arab countries and their partners regarding the concepts,
actions, and strategies necessary to achieve the goals and targets of sustainable development in the region.
It also supports the development of a distinct Arab vision by the League of Arab States and its partners on managing this agenda.

Moreover, the ASDW plays a key role in raising public awareness among Arab citizens about the importance of sustainable development,
disseminating the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda across the region, and providing momentum for launching real developmental projects.
It aims to position the Arab region as a leader in addressing the SDGs and sustainability topics more broadly.

Institutional Framework for Organizing ASDW

The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States oversees the organization of ASDW, led by the Department of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation, which serves as the technical secretariat of the Arab Committee for the Follow-up on the Implementation of the 2030 SDGs in Arab Countries—a committee under the supervision of the Economic and Social Council of the League.

International Partners

ASDW was recommended as an Arab event for sustainable development in 2017. The League, while focusing on consolidating partnerships and international cooperation—especially under SDG 17—ensures coordination with regional and global partners such as the United Nations, World Bank, and European Union, among others.

Host Country – Egypt

The host country of the League, the Arab Republic of Egypt, is a key partner in organizing the event, especially through the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation.
